A new app has been launched to help support young carers in Hertfordshire. The app, called Young Carers in Hertfordshire, provides information on a range of different subjects – including hospitals and mental health awareness.

Speaking about the apps launch during Carers Week 2018, the Trust’s carers lead, Jodie Deards, said:
“The app, which is the first of its kind locally, is aimed at young carers aged 11 and above. It provides them with a wealth of information and advice, including where they can go to get extra support and pictures of our hospital wards to make them feel more comfortable if the person they are caring for is admitted. We wanted to create a resource in a format that is more suited to their needs, which is quicker and easier to access than a booklet or leaflet.
“I want to thank Carers in Hertfordshire and the Young Carers Council for their input and guidance throughout its development, and North Hertfordshire College helping to create the app and make it a reality.”
The app is a joint project by the Trust, Carers In Hertfordshire and the Young Carers Council and has been created by three students at the North Hertfordshire College. The app was approved by NHS Digital and is now available as a free download on Google Play. It will be available for Apple devices towards the end of the year.
